Cookbook Challenge Week Two in Review: Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners by Amadea Morningstar

This week flew by! I can hardly believe that I had the same amount of time with this cookbook as I did The Art of Simple Food. Though I made slightly fewer recipes from this cookbook, I'll be two recipes this week as they were both incredibly delicious and so simple! This cookbook is really designed for westerners; the recipes don't require lots of spices, prep or forethought. Morningstar includes many useful charts and explanations of Ayurvedic diet principles. Her menu suggestions are a good start, but I think the dinner option could be made lighter. The most useful thing for a beginner Ayurvedic chef is the labeling of each recipe; each says how it acts on the doshas (+P, or -P etc) and what season it's best for. Genius! Amadea's The Ayurvedic Cookbook is also very good, but is more designed for the Indian palette with lots of spices.

Final thoughts on Week 2:
A good book, but for this cook, I'm kind-of bored as it's fairly simple. I'm learning how much I love the creative process of creating a dish, something I hadn't expected. I'm excited to do macrobiotic for week three, something new! Hurray!!

I hope you enjoy the recipes I'll post. Let me know how they go, and all meals taste a little better when enjoyed mindfully, so please, breathe & savor the tastes!
