Ayurveda & Yoga Inspired Gifts

It's the holiday season and you probably want to get your loved ones something fun, mindful and not another yoga mat/lululemon outfit/yoga gift card/metal water bottle or other predictable yoga gift. Or maybe you just want to give something that makes you feel good because you know it contributes to a greater good in addition to your friend's happiness....Well, I feel you. Here are some ideas of things that I will be giving, would love to receive and just think are great gifts. Hope they're helpful.

The essential stocking stuffer: A donation to the San Francisco Food Bank.

Watch this video then go here and donate in a friends name or donate your time as a volunteer with their easy online scheduling. One in five residents of San Francisco goes to bed hungry, and we can make a difference. Live the spirit of the season.

Dosha Scoop Neck t-shirts from Karma Warriors ($38.50). "Lighten Up, I'm a Vata" t-shirt shown...too cute! 12% goes to charity too!
*These Ayurveda-inspired shirts are 15% off with code GoHoHo through Dec 20th!*

Make a homemade gift certificate for Pranamaya.com where you can purchase amazing yoga and ayurveda dvds and many of them are downloadable. It's perfect for new yogis and the experienced! I recommend Mark Horner's Building Prana with Hatha Yoga ($13.95) and Scott Blossom's Ayurvedic Daily Lifestyle ($9.95)

The Travel Spice Kit: Great for your Ayurvedi Traveller. ($25.99)

Yoga Sutras Desk Calendar by Cara Brostrom available on etsy ($25). Beautiful and inspiring.

Copper Oil Warmer from MotherOfHealth.com ($39.99). Functional and beautiful! The tea lights keep your oil warm. What a great way to encourage more regular body oiling. Give this with a bottle of Organic Sesame Oil and don't forget to include that the sanskrit word for oil and love are the same: sneha. <3

A rice cooker! This one is by Oster ($22.25) and includes a steamer tray for the top: pretty cool! I use my cooker all the time and it makes getting whole grains into your diet worlds easier. I even make kitchari in mine! After my mom came for lunch and saw me make my cooker kitchari, she asked for this for xmas.

The Power of Vastu Living by Kathleen Cox ($24.99) is a great book to learn how to arrange your home in accordance with the Vedic recommendations (where yoga and ayurveda come from). I can honestly say I sleep better now that my head is in the south than the north. This book is a lot of fun.

Hot Water Bottle with Recycled Sweater Cover on Etsy ($27). Got a friend who's always cold and bundled with half her closet's contents? Get her this. She'll love it. You can also DIY. Buy a bottle from your local drug store and make the cover from an old sweater.

The Ayurvedic Cookbook by Amadea Morningstar ($12.20). This is a great cookbook. It's chalk full of great information on how to integrate Ayurveda into your diet and TONS of accessible tasty recipes. The only thing I wish this book had was pictures.

Hope these help your holidays all the more merry and bright!
