Post #101! Improvements to the blog & what's new this week...

Post #101! Woohoo! I can't believe how long it's taken me to get here, but here it is. I'm very happy to say that I think I am a much better cook now than when the blog started, my health is better, I'm even happier and I love life even more. Not too bad. Thanks for hanging with me while I've gotten here and I hope you'll stay with me a while longer.

After 100 posts that are predominantly recipes, I've decided a couple things:

First, it's time to integrate my website and blog into one, which is why you'll find more info about the work I do on the other pages of this blog. I think it'll get me to blog even more often (yay!)

Second, I really want to educate you all more, which means I'll be posting more educational articles about Ayurveda, tips and tricks and integrating some yoga asana (poses) and pranayama (breathing practices) too. It's all part of Ayurveda anyway; Yoga and Ayurveda were never separate until very recently.

With blogging more I'll probably be posting a mix of recipes with measured amounts and what I'll call 'inspiration' which is ingredients but not set amounts, so the inner intuitive cook can be developed in all of you. I hope you'll enjoy it. I'm always open to suggestions, so feel free as the mood takes you to comment on a post and give me your 2 cents.

With that, here's what I've been up to in the kitchen this week...

A take on "hearty miso soup" from EGO (Easy Green Organic by Anna Getty)
grated zucchini, carrot, minced fresh ginger, chopped scallion, mung bean noodles, white miso, chopped cilantro, sesame seeds and shredded seaweed.
V-, P=, K= : Cook veg well for vata & use rice noodles, Omit noodles for Kapha

Palak Paneer inspired by CSD (crazy sexy diet by Kris Carr) recipe for an indian creamed spinach that's raw and vegan. I don't think Kris would approved of the sauteed paneer cheese with turmeric. Not to self: careful with using raw garlic-- I was garlic breath girl for a few hours afterwards. That said, this was really tasty and felt very healthy.
V-, P+=, K+ : more paneer for vata, use zucchini for pitta, use chard for kapha & less rice

Inspired by "Spicy Garbanzo Bean Burritos" from EGO. The sauce I made instead of using the yogurt cucumber sauce recommended. (Dr Lad told me the one food I definitely shouldn't have is yogurt...sad face...but my skin prefers it this way)
Kate's Hemp Avocado Sauce:
1/2 avocado, use the shell of the avocado to measure 1 part for rest:
2 parts water,
1 part hemp seeds,
juice of 1/2 a small lemon,
salt
and 1 part chopped coriander.
Blend for YUM YUM YUM!!
*note: doesn't save well unless you like eating brownish green food
V-, P-, K+ (for Hemp Avocado Sauce)

Mock Glass Noodle Stirfry from EGO.
mung noodles, sesame oil, spinach, carrots, dried shitake mushrooms, lots of fresh ginger, touch of garlic, touch of Bragg's liquid aminos & garnish with sesame seeds & cilantro: Cook/Saute and combine and enjoy.
V=, P=, K= (yay! Good for everyone!)

Variation on Kris Carr's "Buddha Bowl"
Want to know what's in it? It's just what it looks like. Plus some ginger and garlic. Fairly tasty and quick.
V (tricky, add spices and cook veg well to make balancing)
P-, go low on garlic and salt
K+, use quinoa and more peppers and leafy greens instead of zucchini

  1. Hi Kate,

Love your blog for its beautiful recipes! Quick question about paneer: I was told by my clinical ayurvedic specialist not to mix dairy with bread/rice/grain.

I'd like to eat the palak paneer with rice, as you have above, but I'm worried about doing so. Are there times when it's OK to mix rice and paneer?

    Thanks!
    Joan
