IN THE KITCHEN:
Limes
Aloe
Mint (Tea & On everything)
Coconut Oil (in food & on my body)
Coconut Juice after yoga & jogging
Kale! (looooving my kale: see below)
Maple Syrup
Pearled Barley
Fruit (especially berries!)
Aloe + maple syrup + water = a drink to cool my Pitta

RECIPE: Limeade

juice of 1/4 to 1/2 fresh organic lime
1/2 tsp maple syrup (more to taste)
1 pint fresh water

In a pint glass, squeeze juice of lime and then stir in maple syrup. Add water. Stir and enjoy.
*Note: In Ayurveda, drinks are almost never served chilled, and definitely never iced. That said, I added on small cube of ice to my limeade and did not drink this with any food, to minimize any disruption to my digestion.

  • V: Good. Drink warm. Can substitute lemon for lime.
  • P: Excellent!
  • K: Substitute lemon for lime and honey for maple syrup. Do not drink chilled, in excess or at meals.

RECIPE: Papaya Mint Fruit Bowl (great for breakfast!)

juice of 1/4 lime
1/2 tsp maple syrup
1/2 a papaya, peeled and chopped into bite-size pieces
chopped fresh mint to taste

In a bowl, combine lime juice and maple syrup. Add chopped papaya and a heavy sprinkling of mint. Use clean hands to mix all the ingredients together. A feast for the eyes and the tastebuds.
  • V: Great. Use Lemon instead of Lime. Be sure fruit is not cold. This best suits vata in the summer months. Could also be made with peaches, plums, mango, oranges, cherries & all kinds of berries.
  • P: Ok. Best if using other fruits: peaches, plums, grapes, mangoes, melons, pears, cherries, all berries, and apples.
  • K: Good. Best in small amounts. Better with raw honey and lemon juice. Can also use: apricots, prunes, peaches, pears, cherries, berries, apples, pomegranates, dried figs, raisins

Wonder what I eat for lunch? This is a good picture of a regular lunch for me. I loved when I was raving to a friend about how delicious my lunch was that day, she said, "You eat kitchari even when you're not cleansing?" :) lol! I eat kitchari all the time; I love it!
