Recipe: Curry Sweet Frites

I often become confused about the difference between sweet potatoes and yams. I stumbled across this quote in Heaven's Banquet that seems an adequate answer to me: "Papua New Guineans perhaps have the jump on all besieged tuber botanists: if a man plants it, it's a yam. If a woman plants it, sweet potato it is. " :)

Serves 1.

1 sweet potato, cut into shoestring-like strips
1 t olive oil
large dash curry powder
large dash salt

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spread sweet potato strips out on a baking pan. Toss with oil, curry and salt. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until desired crispiness is attained. Enjoy.

  • Vata: Excellent for Vata! Do not bake for too long to avoid drying out. Can use ghee instead of olive oil.
  • Pitta: Great for Pitta. Minimal salt. Use a mild curry powder.
  • Kapha: Bake with minimal oil if any oil is needed at all.
