bon appetit
We are into spring and all it's Kaphic loveliness: spring showers, longer days, quieting winds (thank goodness!), and love abounding in the air. Keep these dietary tips in mind during the season and you'll steer clear of colds, allergies and stay happily energized throughout the season! Dietary Tips for Spring-time (balancing Kapha):
~derived from Eat, Taste, Heal by Yarema, Rhoda & Brannigan.
- favor foods with bitter, pungent, and astringent tastes (ex: most legumes, root vegetables, broccoli, celery, kale, green beans, apples, pears, dried fruit)
- favor light, dry and warming foods
- eat fewer sweet, sour, and salty foods (ex: milk, vinegar, pineapple, banana)
- eat less in quantity & frequency
- eat at regular times each day
- eat a light breakfast (or skip it entirely) & a light evening meal
- avoid frequent snacking & late night eating
- eliminate white sugar & greasy foods
- use warming spices to improve digestion (ex: garlic, ginger, cumin, cloves, turmeric, cayenne)
- favor warm beverages (ex: chai!, coffee & black tea ok in moderation)
I love the seasonal suggestions!
