Yoga & Ayurveda Gift Guide 2012!

Below you'll find my second annual Yoga & Ayurveda Gift Guide; I hope you enjoy them, and if you have your own suggestions to add, please do in the comments below!

Happy Holidays!

Steel Spice Box
I have two spice boxes that I use constantly. They make spicing your food a breeze because you don't have to open 5 different containers every time you want to spice things up. I LOVE mine. I can't recommend these enough.

The Bone Dreaming Meditation CD by Gilles Marin
Want to be calm? relaxed? fortified? Take a deep look at your bones. Not in an x-ray but with your awareness. My teacher, Scott Blossom, turned me on to this cd a long time ago and it's wonderful. The package is comprised of two CDs: one is Bone Breathing, and one is Bone Dreaming. Bone Breathing has been practiced for ages in Taoist monasteries to "fortify the blood, strengthen the bones and raise the flow of Chi [prana] or life-giving force". Enjoy!

Ginger Chews
Yes, it's sugar, but it's a far better stocking stuff than some of the other things that have hit my stocking in years past. (Russel Stover Marshmallow Santa, anyone? Blech!) The ginger will kick start your digestion and help balance the sugar's effect. These are also great for travelling if you want something to chew that can boost your digestion/elimination/immune system.

Maca Raw Chocolate Bar by Righteously Raw
Oh man, this is good! You only need a little bit too feel the effect of the maca and the deliciousness of the chocolate. Maca is a Latin American super food known to "balance the endocrine system, increase strength and improve libido"! So break out that mistletoe, and enjoy your chocolate! ;)

Myths of the Asanas: The Ancient Origins of Yoga
My most awesome friend, Sarah Kucera of the Myurveda app and Sage Center for Yoga & Healing Arts in Kansas City, gave me this book for my birthday last year and I have learned so much from it. It's so much fun. Super readable. It takes each pose and tells the story behind it: animal poses, sage poses, nature poses. It's superb. A great great gift for any yogi.

Insultated Klean Kanteen Water Bottle
I've had this kanteen for two years and it's still going strong. While there are many good water bottles out there that vacuum seal like this one and have the sippy lid, I prefer that this one doesn't. Why? Because it means that generally I stop what I'm doing to drink my tea. It forces me to be more mindful. And I like sipping out of something that feels more like a mug.

"What's Up Dog" Tank by Karma Warrior Clothes
I love this tank, and I love the Karma Warrior mission. They give 12% of their profits to charity and they make great looking stuff! I would love to have this in my closet. Too cute.

Julz Hoodie By prAna
I have a similar top by prAna that they sold last spring in white, and I love it. It's such a sweat feminine way to cover up when you're cooler or just going between class and the rest of your day. Plus, prAna is donating 20% of the proceeds from select items (like this top) to Outdoor Outreach, a organization that empowers underprivileged kids with outdoor programs.

Ganesha Namaste Y'All Screenprint T-shirt
I have big big love for Ganesh. I love chanting to him in the morning or when I'm looking for parking. I love that he sits in front (and on top) of my front door to take care of the home. I think I have a special connection with him because of our shared sweet tooth that can get us into trouble. (See Myths of the Asanas to learn more). So you can imagine how much I love this shirt! Namaste Y'all!

A Cute Patterned Robe (like this one from Garnet Hill
Any ayurveda guy/gal knows that white robs do not work. Why? Because abhyanga oil is bound to get on it and stain it. So a great warm patterned easy-to-wash robe is the perfect gift to keep you (or your friend) warm and looking cute. Pair it with Sarda Oils and you've got a gift made in heaven.

Ayurvedic Massage Oils (like these from Sarada Ayurvedic Remedies)
Herbal oils are such heaven, and they're not things we often buy ourselves. Treat your loved ones to oils and you can tell them that the sanskrit word for oil and love are the same: sneha.

Kirtan Nation CD
I really really enjoy this cd. It's got so many wonderful artists, voices and rhythms on it. I teach to it occasionally but really I just love to listen to it (& maybe sing along) while I walk around the city. Puts me in a great mood no matter what. I highly recommend it for all yogic tastes.

and there's one more thing that I think makes a great present....a gift certificate for a Yoga lesson and/or an Ayurvedic cleanse or consultation! Click here to learn about special holiday packages and to buy your gift certificate online.
