Recipe: Mint Detox Tea

I drink a lot of tea. It might have something to do with going to college in Scotland. It might be my love of Ayurveda. Or it might just be because tea is so great for digestion. I think a good cup of tea can transform the day.

This tea is great for improving digestion as it has the Three Spice-keteers of Ayurveda: CCF! Cumin, Coriander, and Fennel are super powered spices in my book because together they are balancing for all doshas. You can give them to anyone and they'll find themselves with improved digestion. How great is that?

Detox Teas in Ayurveda are generally variations of CCF and other great spices depending on what actions you're looking for. I also make Detox Teas with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, fresh ginger, and black pepper. The spicier the tea, the more heating and the better for Vata and Kapha. This tea is mellow, and the mint makes it a good fit for Pitta and Kapha. Vata would do better with a little more kick in their tea like trying fresh ginger instead of mint.

I hope you enjoy this fun super easy tea! What are your favorite detox tea recipes?

MINT DETOX TEA
Serving: One day's worth of tea

6 c water
1 t each: cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fennel seeds
1 mint tea bag (or 2 stems of fresh mint)

Combine ingredients in a large pot and bring to boil. Turn down to simmer and cover. Simmer for 5 minutes. Allow to cool slightly then strain and sip!

  • Vata Dosha: Add 2 coins of fresh sliced ginger in addition to the mint.
  • Pitta Dosha: Great!
  • Kapha Dosha: Good. Be sure not to drink tea in any large amounts with your meals as it will put out your agni (digestive fire).

  3. Yes! Next on my list is to make a pumpkin latte (with teccino) that has actual pumpkin, unlike all those you find in the coffee shops. We'll see how it goes... :)
