Local loves: Heirloom Cafe

Heirloom Cafe (heirloom-sf.com): I dined here last night, & this restuarant is one of few in the city where I'd say you can find an truly Ayurvedic-atmosphere: something to nourish each of the senses.
As you can see from the photo above, what a beautiful restaurant! I love how they take advantage of the simple: sunlight streaming in, wild flower bouquets, big wood tables, uncluttered place settings, simple wall decoration, antiqued chandeliers, softly covered chair cushions. The space is such a pleasure to be in. The people of Heirloom are so sweet, mellow, patient and knowledgeable. We sat at one of their community tables, finding it was comfortable and easy to hear one another.
(Dad & I celebrating an early Father's Day as he left today to go on an archeological dig in Croatia...very cool)
The food at Heirloom matched the sattvic (pure, balanced, harmonious) feel of the space. The menu is very small, but varied. While they didn't have a vegetarian entree listed on the menu, the kitchen made me something special. :) Some of my favorite things from our meal: the fennel salad with walnuts & feta cheese, the three cheeses with cranberry walnut bread, my special vegetarian pasta dish, and the "baked to order" chocolate-chip walnut cookies. Each dish felt so mindfully made; like you were in a friend's kitchen. While the prices are not low, I highly recommend going with someone who you'd like to have a pleasant conversation with and share a few wonderful tantalizing dishes.
