Life of Kate: the best homework ever

(sunrise at Mount Madonna)

I'm just about to finish my first year of studying Ayurveda at Mount Madonna Institute in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The program works so that I spend one long weekend a month at MMI and then study on my own at home through the regular books & notes method and fun practicals. This month, our practical is to take a recipe for Amanda Morningstar's book: Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners and write about our experience. I'm currently in the throws of a pitta imbalance. The weather changed too fast for me to anticipate and with the beautiful (but sweltering) sun I'm all fired up; body, mind and spirit. My old practitioner, Jennifer Caldwell, used to joke how she could tell a pitta (me) to do something like eat oatmeal three times a week and when she has them report back she finds they've eaten it seven days a week. It's all or nothing for those of us with a pitta imbalance...and so I find myself posting three recipes from two of Morningstar's books. enjoy! :)

  1. Kate what wit and wisdom. Transitioning from a pitta to vata dosha I look back and completely relate to, "if 2 are good for you, 10 must be better!", now being square in the middle of vata, I am lucky to remember how many I was told........:) love your blogs!
